A Day in the Life of a Student-Athlete

Updated: Mar 13, 2018

BEST = Better Every Single Time; The motto that my team, the N.A.I.T Ooks, strive to follow day in and day out. The little things you do today will effect you eventually, so be aware of your choices and what you choose to make a habit of.

“You can't expect to succeed if you only put in work on the days you feel like it" -Unknown

The routine

*Beep* *Beep* *Beep* The alarm clock sounds. As you drag yourself out of your warm bed. Your muscles ache as you drag your tired body across the room to put on your workout clothes. You start the coffee, and grab breakfast still struggling to wake yourself up. Put on your hat and winter coat and out the door you go. You head to the school and its still dark outside (it feels like a ghost town. Your workout is hard but it makes it easier having all of your teammates doing it with you. After your morning workout you run (but of course stopping to fill up your water bottle because you just downed one already and its not ever 8am), to make your 8am class on time (cause if you don't your professor may give you a hard time). Still smelling like a 12 year old boy who is going through puberty you start snacking on your post workout goods to ensure you recover properly. Although its a normal thing to eat in class people always tend to look at you funny when you whip out a smoothie in class or a protein shake.. You then head back to the cafeteria as to study and eat your lunch (because you have practice later and wont have time to). You'll also enjoy your teammates company because lets be honest, we are like a family and don't like to spend much time with anyone else. After finishing up your lunch and time with your buds, you mosey on over to the same classroom that you've spent hours in for the past few semesters to listen to yet another lecture. After your lecture, you make your way to practice. Before practice you wolf down the pasta that you meal prepped on Sunday (cause we actually do that as student-athletes to save time and money). You then make sure to have a proper warm-up which is key because we cant risk pulling muscles or potentially getting injured. After a tough practice your muscles are tight and sore. So you need to stretch and cool down to reduce soreness in the future. We get a snack after we get off the ice to recover our body since we just died a little bit inside because we worked so hard. As you leave the rink to go home its dark out again (I feel like a vampire, I never really get to go outside except for Sundays lol). You finally get to be at home after a long hard day. So what's the first thing you do? Change into sweatpants of course. After getting comfy, you drag your tired beaten up body back into bed and prepare yourself to repeat the process again tomorrow.
